‘Mehran’ applies for Fajr Film Festival

Iranian feature ‘Mehran’ applies for the 39th Fajr Film Festival in Tehran.

Iranian feature ‘Mehran’ has applied for the 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Tehran.

Media reports said on Wednesday that the film’s director, Roqayyeh Tavakkoli, filled out the entry form.

“I am so happy” because the 2021 edition of the festival will be held, Tavakkoli said.

Earlier this month, Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaeenejad, the head of the FFF, announced that the 2021 edition of the event will be held without public screenings and will only see jurors watching and judging the participating movies.

Tabatabaeenejad noted that the festival may hold physical screenings for audiences, if the coronavirus situation improves.

Tavakkoli said her film tells the story of a boy named Mehran who hosts a family from the Iranian city of Mehran which was affected by the 1980-88 Iraq’s imposed war on Iran.

She added that the film is about the hospitability of the people of Yazd during the war.

‘Mehran’ was awarded at the 2020 edition of the International Film Festival for Children and Young Adults in Iran.

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
